Christmas Ornament Class with Dave Blume
This class will combine spindle turning and end hollowing to create a hollow sphere ornament with contrasting top and bottom finials. This work is at an intermediate level and requires sharp tools and delicate cuts that results in wonderful ornaments. We will warm up with an icicle snowman ornament but spend most of the time on the hollow sphere ornament. If you do not have a small swan neck hollowing tool suitable for working through a 1/2” hole, you can make a teacher’s bell ornament instead. Some wood blanks will be available at the class for purchase.
Tools:
Spindle Roughing Gouge – 1” or smaller
Spindle Gouge – 3/8” or smaller (can also be done with 3/8” or smaller bowl gouge)
