Scoops!
Scoops are fun intermediate difficulty projects that are great gifts to go along with a bowl and a bag of candy or nuts. They can be turned from any hardwood, green or dry, and are particularly impressive when they match the bowl. They are a hybrid project that involves end-grain hollowing and spindle turning. Students will need to bring a small (1/4" or 3/8") bowl gouge and a round nosed or half round scraper no larger than one inch. A 3/8" spindle gouge would also be helpful, but the spindle work can be done with the bowl gauge. Students will also need a 2" x 2" x 8" hardwood blank. A supply of spalted Birch blanks will be available from the instructor for $5 each.
